East Riding of Yorkshire is a county in Yorkshire and the Humber at latitude 53°55′12.00″ North, longitude 0°33′00.00″ West.
The East Riding of Yorkshire (commonly known as East Yorkshire, or the East Riding), is a country in the Yorkshire and the Humber region of England, and is one of the biggest unitary authorities in England.
The modern county excludes Hull, but the ceremonial version includes it. Is is important not to confuse this, as they are both mapped in OSM.
County: 88083 88083 Ceremonial: 3125734 3125734
The county overall
The county has no cities, but the city of Hull is a unitary authority enclosed by the East Riding.
August 2007
None of the towns are well covered yet. Not all of the primary roads are complete. Holderness which lies between the city of Hull and the North Sea Sea is completely blank. Some work between York and Bridlington has been started. A block west of Hull from the Humber north to Market Weighton and Beverley is under way in detail. A large swathe from North Cave west to Goole and the small part of the county south of the Ouse are all untouched. The boundaries with the other parts of Yorkshire are incomplete or missing. In short, there's a lot to do.
There has been a concerted effort to position the villages on the map, so the list below shows them on the map, but most are not yet linked by any road.
September 2007
The Boundaries are drawn with all surrounding counties and unitary authorities. More of the main roads are shown and a few villages are complete in good detail. The positioning of villages continues. Railway coverage has improved.
October 2007
More progress with minor rural roads, villages and some towns. Cycleway and footpaths are improving. Most trunk/primary roads are in place and checking of status is under way. Rail detail and waterway detail has improved a little, including improving some coastline accuracy. The placement of villages with NPE data has continued leaving some positioned in blank areas encouraging roads to be added.
November 2007
Inter-urban A roads are believed to be complete (12:26, 14 November 2007 (UTC))
December 2007
A lot of work done on the position of all of the villages in the county. The out-of-copyright maps show places that do not get recognised today on the ground. The list of villages still has a number of places that need checking on the ground. The mapping of the detail in villages and towns continue. Some more public footpaths have been added along with some woodland. More of the minor, rural roads have been added. The list of larger villages that are 'Done' is growing.
January 2008
More of the smaller villages and hamlets between Howden and Beverley and around Driffield were completed. More detail was added to the north-west and the west Hull suburbs.
February 2008
Much more detail in the villages around Driffield. More Wolds villages complete. Cottingham was completed and more detail added to the southern side of Beverley.
March 2008
The area around the west of Hull has improved quite a lot. The small town of Hessle has had its first pass completed. Anlaby Common is also completed.
August 2008
The market town of Beverley is complete. The small town of Withernsea has had its first pass completed.
Hull
Although Hull is not strictly in East Yorkshire, it is surrounded by it. All of the public roads and many of the obvious amenities are mapped.

Villages and Hamlets
There are a lot of villages in the county - it's a big county. The list below is based on Wikipedia info and it includes hamlets, some of which may no longer really exist on the ground. These are now being marked as place=locality to show where they were and as a more accurate indication than some of other mapping products which still show these places as though they still exist ;-)
The %Done column below is an indication of progress towards a reasonable level of detail for the place shown. This is at least all of the roads with their names and any local landmarks such as schools, pubs, churches or any other obvious place or likely destination. More detail is always better, but with such a large task '100% done' means a basic covering of roads and amenities and gives a good first pass.
Please feel free to amend this list to make it more accurate.
