Description

Sometimes over-eager users copy road layouts or buildings from, for example Yahoo imagery, without realising it is out of date and the OpenStreetMap database is of better quality. A recent example is [1]. This tag identifies places where an external data source is unreliable. The note=* tag can be used with this to explain what the problem is.

Way and value

The way should be an enclosed area defined as a polygon. It should be big enough to hide the road junction or other feature that is already right as mapped in OSM and wrong in the photographs or other outside source. The value is a keyword that identifies the problem source, for example bad_source=yahoo.

Use by editors

When editors display background photography or a map to trace over, the background should be obscured by a bad_source=* polygon that applies to the selected background layer.
