Proposal
Add a method to indicate office=company and other locations that provide customer service.
Rationale
Distinguishing closed office spaces and offices with client service locations has no standard solution.
Both are currently tagged as office=company, but it seems to me that there is a clear need to distinguish between:
- a company office where I can walk in and handle issues with existing products or services (or maybe buy them)
- a company office closed to outsiders, where workers do not interact with walk-ins; people attempting to get inside would be escorted out by security
This tag is also likely to be useful for office=government - some are primarily or partially contact points with public, some are internal and closed to outsiders.
Examples

Tagging
Add customer_service=yes to mark a place where someone may receive customer service and it is not obvious otherwise. For example office=company company=energy where one may handle overdue bill payment plans or attaching new property to power network or dispute bill.
Add customer_service=no to mark a place where someone may not receive customer service and it is not obvious otherwise.
Considered tagging ideas
- Using access tags access=yes/access=customers/access=private - it is not entirely clear. And in many cases place clearly offers customer service but nearly all office is still closed to outsiders. Still, it is a viable alternative.
- amenity=customer_service - may be interpreted to be a primary feature
- customer_service=yes/customer_service=no to make it clearly a property
- service:customer_service=yes - this is just silly
- usage=* - offices may have multiple uses at once, it is preferable to allow tagging specifically that customer service is available (researching office purpose is tricky at best).
Applies to
Places that may or may not provide customer service, for example office=company and office=government.
Should not be used on places where it is clearly implied, adding it to amenity=bank is a pointless waste of time and just adds cruft to tags, as banks (by definition) provide customer service.
Does not apply to places like call centres which do not have any provision for dealing with customers in person.
Rendering
Depends on design of a data consumer, it is not something decided by a tag proposal.
