Proposal for shelter:
Features/Pages affected
The new tag tourism=lean_to means rather the same as amenity=shelter with shelter_type=weather_shelter.
While amenity=shelter can be used for any kind of shelter also not man-made, tourism=lean_to has a specific meaning.
The tag shelter_type=weather_shelter was used 1031 times at 2012-04-01 07:59 UTC. These nodes should be changed to tourism=lean_to.

- I approve this proposal. I point out to Fabi2 that in the US, at least, a lean-to is different from a weather shelter in that it is intended for camping; the description of the 'weather_shelter' type specifically states that it is intended for sleeping only in emergencies. -- Ke9tv 00:55, 23 April 2012 (BST)
- I oppose this proposal. Only proposes to change amenity=shelter + shelter_type=weather_shelter to tourism=lean_to without further gain. --Fabi2 19:44, 20 April 2012 (BST)
- I oppose this proposal. Same reason as above. amenity=shelter is well established, no need to reinvent the wheel. To make it even worse, tourism=* seems the wrong key, because a lean-to may be used not only by tourists. --Fkv 19:52, 20 April 2012 (BST)
- I oppose this proposal. I agree with both the comments above. -- Al3xius 10:54, 21 April 2012 (BST)

- I oppose this proposal. I second Fabi2's arguments -- SKald 19:00, 22 April 2012 (BST)
- I oppose this proposal. This is just another name for a shelter, no need for this tag. In Denmark we call this half open thing a "shelter" (since there is no native name in Danish for it). --polderrunner 20:12, 22 April 2012 (BST)
- I approve this proposal. I see far too much confusion if amenity=shelter + shelter_type=weather_shelter is used. Essentially any amenity=shelter without further classification cannot be properly evaluated as to what it is. Therefore I prefer lean to.--Extremecarver 08:05, 23 April 2012 (BST)
- I oppose this proposal. A general and meaningful tag is worth more than a thousand specialized tags, that nobody but a handful of specialists worldwide know. Lets stick to the principle: a general tag and attributes to refine it. --BorisC 23:51, 23 April 2012 (BST)

- I oppose this proposal. -- shelter_type=* seems better suited. --Schuetzm 18:51, 29 April 2012 (BST)
- I oppose this proposal. Same reasons as by Javiersanp, use amenity=shelter + shelter_type=lean_to when a difference to wheater shelter is needed. For shelter in rocks shelter_type=rock_shelter could be used.--Marmoti 18:56, 30 April 2012 (CEST)
