This tag indicates the presence of a ladder, mapped as property of a feature.

The tag should only be used for hunting stands, giant furniture, and generally any other feature providing a ladder or with highway=via_ferrata.

To map a ladder on its own, use highway=ladder.

How to map

Main tag

Use ladder=yes to indicate that a particular object has a ladder.

Key Value Element Description Example
ladder yes way node The feature has a ladder Thumb

On hiking paths / via ferrata

This tag was originally approved for ladders on hiking trails secured by technical means like steel cables, fixed ropes or rungs, where the tag used to indicate the presence of a ladder. This usage has been deprecated in favour of highway=ladder. It can however still be used in combination with highway=via_ferrata to mark sections featuring ladders.
