- Proposed icon looks like a parking symbol to me (white P on blue background often used in the UK at least for parking symbols). UK symbol is below, not sure how well it would travel to other countries, it's always seemed a rather archaic image to me. I think for UK maps it would be nice to have something similar though. - [slightly off-topic] Are you really 'encouraging safe driving' if people need to know about speed traps to keep to a safe speed? - Cafemusique 10:59, 20 October 2006 (BST)
- IMHO Speed trap warnings are really, really bad. Really. We don't need to adopt this just because the commercial online maps have this feature. We don't have to appeal to nether instincts. -- Eckhart 20:32, 20 October 2006 (BST)
- In a lot of countries it is forbidden to have navigation software with speed cams on it, what is legal is when it's broadcasted on radio, posted on the internet - i don't think it'd be a problem as long as the map is not in a car, but i software like gpsdrive plan on including osm-data and it would protect the users not to have it in... can't tell if it's a bad thing or not, i decided to not put my logged speed cams into OSM. --blk 21:22, 20 October 2006 (BST)
- Apart from the legal issues, it is very much a comes down to personal viewpoint as to whether having speed trap warnings is a good or bad idea, I myself think they are a good idea particulalry when considering the placement of some cameras in the UK. I can think of one in particular (Lordelph will probably know it) it is located on the A505 Baldock Road at the bottom of a hill as you enter Letchworth Garden City, and even knowing that it is there, it is all too easy to pickup just that little bit extra speed down the hill and get caught. Anyway here is an alternative icon based on the uk warning sign:

Usage
There are many way to set up speed traps. I do not agree that points where law enforcement officers or patrols regularly occure, but rather fixed features such as speed bumps, buzzing stripes (those that make a noise in your car when you pass them), speed cameras, narrowing in the road (many Brazilian highways have zones where you have to zig-zag the lanes to pass, generally in the visinity of highway police stations). --Skippern 19:02, 19 October 2008 (UTC)
