- For the moment I tag the traboules with highway=footway and tunnel=true. Don't you find it enough to describe this kind of way ? FredB 20:30, 23 November 2007 (UTC)
- Sure it's a good way for (I forgot to find a simple way for). My goal was just to enlight that such footways are specific to Lyon and to few other towns around and that they bring a tourism or historic interest (and a quite funny one). So it could be great to find a way to add a key explaining that (eg. key=tourism or key=historic). Another point to add could be that some of them are opened 24/7, some others closed 24/7 (they are private footways), and some others are opened partially from mid-Spring to mid-Autumn or are nightly closed (a key, to define, could be useful to give such information). That's why I was proposing a specific footway called "traboule" apart from "footway". Maybe that's too much for a such object? LEt me know your remarks about, thx! --Livewire74 15:50, 29 November 2007 (CET)
- If the traboules are not open 24/7 then you yould use date_on/date_off, day_on/day_off, hour_on/hour_off (take what you need ;) ) to mark it's opening-periods --Cbm 11:27, 26 December 2007 (UTC)
- We need a general way to map passage ways. With passage way I mean any passage open to the public going through a building. Of cause not every shop with two entrys should be mapped as a passage way, but if it is used regularly by peaple to go from one side of the building to the other it should be maped. I woul´d propose something like tunnel=yes, so that it can be combined with the different highway-types. For example passage=yes or if you want passage=traboule. Or something more general which would include streets going through buildings or public telephones in buildings like inside=yes Dimitri Junker 2:15, 1.Dec.2007 (CET)
- I think tunnel=true is the best way to do it at the moment. highway=traboule would be not so good, because it's a very special case. To solve this inner-buiiling-problem we need a much more general beginnings. The international equivalent to traboule is passageway, is think. But i don't know if a new highway-value for this will solve all our problems... --Cbm 11:27, 26 December 2007 (UTC)
- I think highway=footway should be enough. If there is highway going through building then it's obvious you have to walk through building. If there is no building yet, then add tunnel=yes.
- Another thing is that traboule may be interresting for tourists. Traboule is way too specific to get into Map Features and mapnik/osmarender. I think better would be create relation with type something like "interesting feature". The relation would be for general use, not only for Lyon's traboule. As there will be only one relation instance for the whole Lyon, it will be possible to include detailed information, like explanation what traboule actually is.
- Anyway there is no such relation in osm yet, so I would suggest to use some very specific tag for now. Either create relation with specific type or tag every way. For example use lyon_traboule=yes. If suggested "interesting feature" relation ever gets into osm, it will be easy to automatically convert all ways into it. --Jttt 10:42, 2 May 2008 (UTC)
- +1 to fredB's idea, I am leaving in chambery and we also have much of those traboule, and I was just tagging it with highway=pedestrian, but I forgot about the tunnel=yes ;-) so I find it enough and will had this to the chambery's traboules

- an old discussion I know but since I've encounter the case recently in St-Etienne, here's what I've found and decided to use : highway=footway with tunnel=building_passage for the ways that are "indoors" (indoor=yes could be used to...) I known Lyon and its traboules (lived there for 10 years) and I would definitely add a tourism=attraction somewhere since some are publicised.
Whatever... IMHO, in most of the case, traboules are not objects in themselves but, de facto, a route in the sense of the relation:route with "route" as key and "foot" as value (a traboule is often an indoor passage in a building + a courtyard (?) + an alley + another indoor passage, etc).
