Proposal talk:Air filling

From OpenStreetMap Wiki

air_pump is wrong term, air_filling or air_compressor is better, I think air_filling is best. Valve type should be tagged with valve instead of type. air_filling can also mean a place where diving bottles and paint-ball markers can be filled, in that case valve value is different (don't remember term now). The supply can be "air", "filtered_air", "pure_air", "nitrox", "co2", "n2" and even "light_air" (light air is a expanding foam some times used in tyres". This can be tagged either with gas or supply. The fill stations used by cars are generally on fuel stations (amenity=fuel or bicycle shops shop=bicycle, while fill stations for diving and paint ball are generally in places like diving shops shop=sports, dive spots, and even on fire stations amenity=fire_station. --Skippern 13:25, 10 March 2010 (UTC)

response

Excellent points, made before I had the photo and draft icon to complete the proposal. I have broadened the scope of the proposal to incorporate these suggestions, to avoid proliferation of tags. --EdH 02:33, 13 March 2010 (UTC)

What about adding this information to existing amenity=* features, such as amenity=fuel? In this case, only one amenity=* value can be chosen. To work around this, perhaps this proposal should also include air_filling=yes; air_filling:valve=*, etc.? This would also allow for indicating the absence of air_filling facilities (air_filling=no). --Waldo000000 16:59, 17 March 2010 (UTC)

I'm open to the suggestion. But how would this approach handle a free-standing pump not associated with a shop or other amenity, such as the one at the student center that almost no one knows about? How would one know where to look for it on the map, or in the data to map it?--EdH 00:19, 18 March 2010 (UTC)

Merging with compressed_air?

Some time ago I created the tag compressed_air for exactly the purpose air_filling has. I think we should merge both tags, preferably naming it air_filling and extract the best out of both tags. For example, I miss a pressure indication or opening hours on air_filling. Opinions, anyone? --PatrickK 21:05, 22 November 2010 (UTC)

No air at fuel stations in US? Since when?

I don't know of a single fuel station that doesn't have an air pump. Often also with a water hose. Sometimes coin-op. Even the station downtown that has no attached convenience store (just a guy in a booth who takes money and sells cigarettes) has an air pump. Nor do I know of any "air compresion stations" to serve them if they did. So this is a particularly weird proposal IMO. - KTyler 10:50, 19 May 2012 (BST)
