Building Type

What is the correct "Building Type" (https://wiki.openstreetmap.org/wiki/Key:building) to use for veterinary clinics? It's not a retail outlet, nor is it a proper hospital. (Although there ARE some animal hospitals...)

Specialties

I've noticed specialised veterinary clinics that could use extra tags. Specifically, I've seen a "Dermatology and Allergy Clinic", a surgery clinic, and an emergency clinic, and I'm sure there are more kinds. --Wtachi (talk) 02:03, 11 May 2013 (UTC)

It is not unnecessary. If one wants to get a list of all animals that are treated or not treated (i.e. information is available), one can simply get all keys starting with veterinary:for: . If you omit the :for, it is impossible to get such a list, as one can't distinguish animals from other subkeys any more. --Imagic (talk) 08:40, 10 February 2014 (UTC)

I don't think that for is the right keyword here. It has a too general meaning and could also mean the type of disease that is treated there. How about ...:treats:... ? --Michael Z. (talk) 10:07, 10 March 2015 (UTC)

Proper grammar

Veterinary is an adjective. Veterinarian is a noun.

When tagging, we should be mindful of proper word usage. Thus "hospital A large facility with many veterinaries..." should read "hospital A large facility with many veterinarians."

Services available

It is incorrect to assume that a veterinary practice consisting of only one veterinarian does not routinely offer surgical services. In a large-animal practice (bovines, equines, and other large farm animals) surgery is routinely performed in the field, on the farm where the livestock are located. I often assisted my father when he operated on cows and horses in fields and barns, during years in which his "office" was a 1965 Dodge van. Apm-wa (talk) 14:32, 12 January 2021 (UTC)

This highlights that I miss on this page any way of making the standard distinction in the UK between small animal (typically urban) and large animal practices (farms and horses kept for leisure purposes), which I suspect underlies the blog post on rabbits as exotic animals which brought me here. Our long-standing vet, not only set a thigh bone on my brother's pet mouse, but had done a tooth extraction on a circus lion (she rated both as amongst her most unusual procedures) — a practice still exists in the same 19th century townhouse 244747257 244747257. My PhD supervisor was a veterinarian, and a superb surgeon on both large (mainly sheep on the family farm) and small animals (mainly mice in the lab). SK53 (talk) 10:23, 17 October 2021 (UTC)
