Left of what?

Left of what ?? What happens with a horizontal way ??? What happens when someone reverse the way ??? Like on your example street sign , the street has just two names. -- User:PhilippeP 18:22, 1 May 2008

The left is defined by the order of the nodes like for the tag oneway. If someone reverse the way the editor can ask the user if he want to exange the tags. --Patou 18:59, 1 May 2008 (UTC)

Key name

I think left:name and right:name is better because it's already used in boundary=* --Jttt 20:01, 19 May 2008 (UTC)

I chosen left_name and right_name to be similar to old_name and alt_name which are widely used. --Patou 21:45, 22 May 2008 (UTC)
Actually name:left would make more sense (similar to source:ref etc). The ':' symbol means name is namespace, so for example namefinder would know name:left is some special kind of name and will include it in names database. --Jttt 06:56, 27 May 2008 (UTC)

name_left and name_right seem to be in use instead of left_name and right_name--Kurt Roeckx 22:11, 29 May 2008 (UTC)

You're right, I didn't find any left_name or right_name, but I've found about 120 name_left/right. Anyway I think name:left shoud be used. There is already 120 different keys containg name_ or _name applied on ways and 60 applied on nodes. How are namefinder or renderers suppose to guess which key means some kind of name and which key is somethink else? --Jttt 06:52, 30 May 2008 (UTC)
