Talk:London Cycle Hire
Barclays Cycle Hire
Do we really want to tag 'Barclays Cycle Hire'? Nobody in the real world calls it that, unless they are paid to do so, and these sponsor names change frequently. Wouldn't operator=TfL or network=TfL make more sense? -- Ed Avis <eda@waniasset.com> 14:19, 8 August 2010 (BST) - However, network=Barclays Cycle Hire seems entrenched now (eg the livingwithdragons map searches for it), so I guess we should stick with that. -- Ed Avis <eda@waniasset.com> 13:49, 11 August 2010 (BST)
- It does appear to be the official name, so seems appropriate for the "name tag". One could though probably add an alt_name or some such to the network relation. For example alt_name=borisbikes. But then again it is too new still to really be sure yet what people will use to refer to it. So let's just concentrate on getting all the 400 odd stations into OSM first and worry about the name later. ;-) Retagging those few nodes shouldn't be too difficult if it is needed Amm 22:28, 11 August 2010 (BST)
Santander Cycles
It seems "boris bikes" would've been a name with greater longevity. 'Barclays Cycle Hire' scheme is, as of April 2015, officially called 'Santander Cycles', and who knows who will be sponsoring it five years from now. Sadly that is the official name though.
Has anyone discussed changing the tag over to 'network=Santander Cycles' on all the docking station nodes? The page here still says the tag is network=Barclays Cycle Hire, with no mention of this issue, so for now I'll add a note pointing to this discussion. Been discussed anywhere else?
Looking in the data, a small handful of docking points have already been changed over ... but inconsistently. Santander tag stats. I guess a few have just had the bank name swapped over casually 'network=Santander Cycle Hire'. But I think it should be 'network=Santander Cycles', the name which the TfL website uses, and the wikipedia article uses (wikipedia:Santander Cycles) ...we should agree & document this first, but then...
I think this is a case where (PROPOSAL) we Londoners should be bold and swap them all over as a single edit

- I think it would be wrong to change it over to 'network=Santander Cycles' because it's not future-proof, and the only reason (IMHO) to apply a mass edit would be to convert the value to a value that we aren't going to have to mass-edit in the near future.
- It's not actually a convention that network=* should be the actual official name - the values for "network" are a weird mixture of things, eg "ncn", "ru:regional". I would be happy with "network=TfL" as proposed above, but it's a little bit vague so I'd suggest "network=tfl_cycle_hire". I'd be in favour of a bulk edit that changed it to some value such as that. --Danstowell (talk) 09:42, 10 April 2016 (UTC)

Purpose of the table?
I'm all for updating the UK parts of the wiki...but why have a table of all locations given that you can easily extract them with Overpass Turbo?
I added a list of wind farms to Renewable Energy in the UK but that was the gov open data list to be matched manually to OSM and show progress. Jnicho02 (talk) 09:47, 12 January 2020 (UTC)
The same question occurred to me too. The table would need someone to keep it in sync with OSM. Maybe instead we could recommend a query such as this Overpass query which directly accesses the data in OSM? --Danstowell (talk) 13:41, 12 January 2020 (UTC)
