Template talk:JOSM screenshot with imagery
Would it be useful to have parameter for trivial amount of OSM data, where for example single square building is rendered and ODBL is definitely not triggered? While data=none is not really correct? Or maybe data=none description should be changed from "if there is absolutely no data or map data" Mateusz Konieczny (talk) 12:12, 14 August 2022 (UTC)

- Oh, I see. It is a freeform field unlike Template:JOSM screenshot without imagery - maybe it would be nice to synchronize this solutions Mateusz Konieczny (talk) 12:34, 14 August 2022 (UTC)
- The option data was a quick solution and intended for cases where there is only data that the user created by its own or copied from an open source, but never uploaded it to OSM (e.g. if you draw some lines in JOSM for testing). The free text parameter data=none is just a suggestion if there is really no data, only background image. Otherwise, if we would use the parameter like on Template:JOSM screenshot without imagery no_osm_data, you would have to set 2 parameters: the license of the used data and a parameter no_osm_data. Should we change the option on that template to data=... instead of no_osm_data to sync? --Chris2map (talk) 17:32, 14 August 2022 (UTC)
- no_osm_data on both seems better as it is machine readable, but still is not really solving case of trivial amount of data... Mateusz Konieczny (talk) 17:43, 14 August 2022 (UTC)

Simplifying the template
Would it be possible to modify the template so that it is sufficient to use the code {{JOSM screenshot with imagery|Bing image}}
(or {{JOSM screenshot with imagery|Bing}}
) to display the same thing as with {{JOSM screenshot with imagery|{{Bing image}}}}
.
This change is intended to make the template easier to use, since using a template within a template in this way is highly counter-intuitive in a Mediawiki context. The aim would then be to do the same for Maxar, Esri etc.
Obviously the next step would be to replace the code in the "File:" pages so as to use the argument as modified ({{JOSM screenshot with imagery|Bing image}}
instead of {{JOSM screenshot with imagery|{{Bing image}}}}
for example). — Koreller (talk) 07:59, 22 August 2023 (UTC)
- Of course it is possible. But I'm hesitant because it limits the universality and flexibility of the template and increases the maintenance effort. We don't know which sources and licenses will be used in JOSM. – I agree with you that it's a bit bulky. Perhaps it would be better if we radically reduce the JOSM template by removing the other content licenses from it, so that the licenses for the displayed image and data content must simply be specified separately. --Chris2map (talk) 08:22, 26 August 2023 (UTC)
