Guidelines

Naming

The official language of Oman is Arabic so Arabic should be used as the primary language in name= tags. The following name tagging scheme should be used:

  • name=<default name> Arabic name
  • name:ar=<arabic name> Arabic name, should be identical to the name=<default name> tag
  • name:en=<english name> English name, should be added, if available

Example: the name tag for the governorate of Muscat is as follows: name=مسقط name:en=Muscat name:ar=مسقط.

Tracks

Track Classification

All ways with unpaved surface which can be used by normal cars should be tagged as track (type 1 or 2). Ways which can only be used by 4WD-cars should be tagged as track type 3, 4 or 5. All other ways that cannot be used by cars should be tagged as path.

Tracktype

Used to describe the surface quality of the track, path or road.

Usually an unpaved track with surface of gravel mixed with a varying amount of sand, silt, and clay. See Gravel road on Wikipedia.
May be applicable to heavily degraded and crumbled roads which was paved in past.
Often also tagged with surface=gravel;compacted;fine_gravel etc.
