York Micro Mapping Party 2008

The City of York, Northeast England, UK.
Meet-up venue will be Brigantes (map) on Micklegate. This is a fairly short distance from unmapped territory to the Southwest. It's close to the station too, so anyone who is coming by train will have an easy time finding it.

Goals
- To make progress towards completing the road network within the area bound by the outer ring road.
- To learn how to do a mapping party as a prelude to organising a proper mapping weekend in future.
- To have a laugh.
- To consume some beer.
Results
As expect, there were only a few of us - three with 2 GPS devices between us. After some chatting in the pub we set off. Liam and Al took the GPS devices to map areas by foot. Matthew cycled off to get names for streets identified as nameless by the no-names map, after walking with Liam a little to provide some sort of tutorial babble.
We met back in the pub after two and a half hours. Matthew brought his laptop to present a quick overview of using josm.
With only two GPS devices being used on foot, the amount of data gathered is not so much, but the main goals of the party were achieved - to make a little progress, while working out how to arrange the event, and consume a beer or two.
