Ordnance Survey Opendata
Some of the map has been from tracing Ordnance Survey Opendata, mainly the Street View data set for improving Workington around the river (see Workington Bridges below). Ideally this should be tagged as source=OS_OpenData_StreetView but other values for source have been used, such as space instead of underscores, 'OS Streetview', 'os_streetview' and 'OS 1:25k'. Please leave a comment if you have been tracing OS in Cumbria other than Workington. Should we have a list of all changesets?
Workington Bridges
In April 2010 Workington was divided when the main bridge collapsed and another was badly damaged. OpenStreetMap was quick to respond by changing the bridges to be under construction and even having the temporary and new bridges as soon as they were mapped. To Do: Save a picture and add it here? Propose it as a Image of the week? Link to mailing list discussion.
This spurred some contributors to quickly improve the map by copying OS opendata. It is really important to back this up with on-the-group surveying(checking and gathering additional data). If you are local to Workington and already involved with OpenStreetMap, why not start the Workington page to collaborate the effort. If you are local and want to get started, see our Beginners' Guide.
