Heavy rains that began in mid-November 2023 intensified until January 2024, causing major flooding in at least 18 of the Democratic Republic of Congo's 26 provinces. This year, the rising waters of the Congo River reached their highest level for more than 60 years, according to the Régie des voies fluviales. To date, more than 430,000 households, or 2.1 million people, have been affected, and 300 dead according to official estimates. Many communities have been displaced and left homeless
