The is the page to discuss the import of Geolog dataset for São Paulo, made available by the city government.

License status

New as of 2015: There was some conundrum about the dataset, because, by law terms, the dataset should be public domain, without need for credits. And, although some people inside the prefecture shared that view, we didn't have that in writing. A user, tiagofassoni, sent a Freedom of Information Request (in portuguese: Pedido de Acesso à Informação) to the prefecture asking for the license terms, and whether attribution is necessary. The answer was that attribution isn't necessary and the dataset is public domain. Full e-mail transcript is [1] (in Portuguese)

The prefecture made the following statement regarding the license status of this dataset:

(portuguese) Todos os arquivos estão disponíveis para download, podendo ser livremente consultados, trabalhados, reutilizados, redistribuídos, sem restrições de licenças, patentes ou mecanismos de controle, apenas indicando-se os créditos devidos.

(english) All files are available for download and can be freely consulted, processed, reused, redistributed, without restrictions of license, patents or control mechanisms, only by declaring credits.

A full e-mail transcript is here (portuguese).

The data

Geolog data is provided by Secretaria de Desenvolvimento Urbano at this page.

Different files use different reference systems, so care should be taken when converting them do WGS84 (OSM's reference system). Also, note that QGIS and gdal have the wrong parameters for SAD69 and will do an incorrect conversion. In ogr2osm, the option -e 4618 should not be used. Instead, use -p '+proj=utm +zone=23 +south +ellps=aust_SA +towgs84=-86.35,3.88,-38.22,0,0,0,0 +units=m +no_defs'.

Objectives

Expand coverage in:
