Minutes of meeting of the Training Working Group of the Humanitarian OpenStreetMap Team

Meeting commenced at 1900hrs Monday 27th March 2017 using the Mumble server, but IRC monitored.

Present

Melanie Eckle, Michael Heißmeier & Russell Deffner

Agenda

Trello board for Agenda <https://trello.com/b/ZYzEoama/hot-training-wg>

Default Project Instructions

Russell suggested that we broaden the scope of the instructions - they seem to be very focused on Africa.

iD CSS Style Sheet

Michael determined that it is unlikely that we can come up with something like the HOT validation style sheet for JOSM. The available styling options are too different in these two cases and iD style sheets lack any access to connectivity information e.g. between highway nodes and area nodes.

Training WG and Social Media

Russell mentioned that the Communications WG will be in charge of maintaining all external communications by HOT and designate a person who will operate the Twitter account. Laura was present at their last meeting and should have further details.

Other Business

Based on the discussion about broken polygons on the HOT mailing list Michael investigated some common errors as reported by the OSM inspector. It turns out that we should instruct new users how to properly construct polygons with holes. This is certainly not an advanced topic but frequently used for islands in lakes and riverbeds many of which are constructed so that they yield invalid geometry.
