Background

This is a proposal for the import of points of interests, POIs in Skåne County, Sweden. Data is available from Region Skåne / Skåne County www.skane.se. Imported hotels would include name and website of the POI.

Skånetrafiken is an administration in Skåne County and is responsible for public transport in Skåne. Skånetrafiken has a travel planner on the web and as a mobile application. To make the app more useful Skånetrafiken uses POIs that travelers may have as start or end destination instead of searching just for an address, bus stop or station.

Source

The original source of the data is the Skåne County organization, Tourism in Skåne. Originally the data has been collected by the tourist offices in Skåne. This data has then been refined by Skånetrafiken. The data used in this import is a subset of the point of interest data used by Skånetrafiken. The following categories are included: hotels, churches, castles, libraries, airports.

Data comes projected in SWEREF 99 TM, EPSG:3006

Conflation

Added hotel nodes that do not intersect with existing OSM hotels.

Simplification

Features in the source data contains several attributes that are not relevant to the OSM import. Only the most necessary attributes will be kept and tagged.

Workflow

This is a one time import. Data will be uploaded to OSM using JOSM and the import account, markus.nils+skanetrafikenimport@gmail.com.

  1. Data is extracted from Skånetrafiken database as a shape file.
  2. Data is checked against OSM and unimportant or conflicting POI:s are removed from the data to import.
  3. Data is converted to OSM XML to use in JOSM with FME.
  4. Data is imported to OSM using JOSM.


  • First a test dataset is imported with 17 hotels in the Kristianstad region using the method above.
    • POI-category tag for this dataset: tourism = hotel
  • After this, the data is imported divided by for instance municipal or category or both. What is the most practical is decided later.
