Import/Hendricks County, Indiana

Goals

The goal of this import is to improve the address search-ability in my local county. I wanted to switch to an alternative map software while delivery driving but the map coverage of OpenStreetMap wasn't enough for me to effectively navigate.

I have found a state of Indiana funded database that has more addresses and location points for the addresses

Schedule

I am actively looking through the data to make sure there aren't any issues with the data and will add my "diff" file to github for anyone who wants to audit or PR the file

I have no deadline for when it will be done

Import Type

I will be using QGIS to skim unnecessary data, exporting as GeoJSON so I can import to JOSM and will be using JOSM conflation plugin

I will only be adding the tags already used on OSM and using QGIS to eliminate unnecessary tags

Workflow

• I will search area by area first before import to verify data
• I will try to minimize the data to 4MB by limiting placing groups of points into smaller layers

Conflation

I will be using JOSM conflation plugin to ensure duplicates don't exist. I will merge duplicates with their dataset counterpart. Tags will be transferred to the points on the dataset in order to prioritize coord accuracy
