The tag crossing:activation=* specifies how the barriers and alerts of a railway crossing are activated.
How to map
Use the tag on a node 
. The node should be shared between the highway and railway.

- crossing:activation=* - the type of operation
- crossing:activation=automatic - by treadle or contacts detecting a train
- crossing:activation=local - locally operated by railway staff (e.g., train conductor)
