A mapping raid is a short-time mapping activity done by non-local armchair and outdoor mappers with the purpose of improving a local map, mainly by using aerial images. It usually occurs in areas with few local mappers.

Advantage

  • Distant locations get a standardised look

Disadvantage

  • Non-local mappers have no actual local knowledge, so they might draw from outdated aerial images
