Thurgau in general

Thurgau is a Swiss Canton as part of the 26 cantons forming the Swiss Confederation (Switzerland). It is part of Eastern Switzerland, covering an area of 991 km2 . The population, as of December 2020, is 282,909. The canton is composed of five districts: Frauenfeld, Kreuzlingen, Weinfelden, Münchwilen and Arbon. Its capital is Frauenfeld. Three hill masses stretch the canton: One along Lake Constance in the north. Another is further inland between the Thur and the river Murg. The third one forms the southern border of the canton and merges with the Hörnli mountain in the pre-Alps.

Thurgau was first declared a canton in its own right at the formation of the Helvetic Republic in 1798.
