Why Choose Tacloban?
This year marks the 10th year anniversary of the onslaught of Super Typhoon Yolanda where thousands of lives were lost and millions worth of properties were damaged. Tacloban, being the ground zero for this catastrophe, is a good candidate venue for Pista ng Mapa 2023. Considering that the commemoration of Super Typhoon Yolanda and the celebration of Pista ng Mapa is both in November, this shall serve as a symbolic event to highlight the importance of open mapping in disaster resilience.
The UP Visayas Tacloban College strongly advocates the use of spatial planning and analysis in inspiring holistic solutions. Every year, the college spearheads a week-long GIS Day celebration which aims to promote awareness of GIS by showcasing its real-world applications and contributions to building better societies. Hence, we are committed to host the Pista ng Mapa 2023 and take part in a community that fosters spatial awareness and champions open mapping.

Catering
The hotel provides two catering packages to choose from: 650/pax and 850/pax per meal. The 650/pax package includes two types of viands while the 850/pax package includes three types of viands. Both packages include rice, vegetables, dessert, and drinks. There is an addition of 300/pax for the snacks. Once a minimum of 70 participants is reached, the rental for the main venue (Grand Ballroom) is given for free.

Alternative Venue
UPVTC has a college conference room which is used for seminars, workshops, and etc. However, it can only accommodate at most 70 participants. Furthermore, it is highly probable that there will be no available breakout rooms at that time because of on-going face-to-face classes.
