Proposal

Matrix is an open, federated messaging platform. It would be useful to be able to add Matrix contact address to POIs.

You can read more about Matrix at matrix.org.

Rationale

This tag is already being used although unofficially. It makes sense to add it, just like facebook, telegram and other proprietary alternatives can already be added.

Tagging

Content of the tag should be one of:

  • Matrix user id (@user:server.org)
  • Matrix room id (#room:server.org)
  • matrix: URI

I'd exclude matrix.to -links from the list, as it is a temporary solution until matrix: uri scheme is more widely adopted.

Examples

I'd expect any organizations using Matrix as a communication method to be used. Universities, hackerspaces, companies, public services, etc.

Rendering

OSM clients should preferably generate a matrix:// link or a matrix.to URL that can be opened. As a user I'd like to be able to open the Matrix room or user by one click in my preferred Matrix client installed on the device.
