Definition
There are many restaurants etc. that close their kitchen early in the evening. Afterwards, you can no longer order hot food, only drinks and cold snacks. Similarly, at some restaurants the kitchen opens at noon, but you can already go there earlier and order e.g. coffee and muffins.
Rationale
On the one hand, a restaurant finder app should only show restaurants that are still serving hot food. On the other hand, a drink finder app should show you any bar, restaurant, café etc. that is still open. Therefore, restaurants need opening hours as well as kitchen hours in the OSM database.
Tagging
- Use the tag kitchen_hours=* with values in the same syntax as opening_hours=*.
- The kitchen hours should always be within the opening hours. It makes no sense for a restaurant to close at 22:00, but leave its kitchen open until 23:00.
- If the kitchen is open during the entire opening hours, you can omit the kitchen_hours tag.
Examples
This German restaurant offers "Warme Küche" (hot food) from 11:00. Before, they serve continental breakfast. It could be tagged:
opening_hours=Mo-Fr 06:00-22:00; Sa, Su 07:00-22:00 kitchen_hours=11:00-22:00
This Australian restaurant could be tagged:
opening_hours=Mo 15:00-23:00; Tu-Th, Su 12:00-23:00; Fr-Sa 12:00-01:00 kitchen_hours=Mo 17:30-21:30; Tu-Th 12:00-15:00, 17:30-21:30; Fr 12:00-15:00, 17:30-22:00; Sa 12:00-22:00; Su 12:00-21:00
Rendering
Not rendered on most maps. On special maps, such as opening_hours_map, there might be a special color (e.g. dark blue) for amenities that are still open, but no longer serve warm food.
