Proposal

Mobility Hub in Berlin (Südkreuz station), Germany
Information board about a mobility hub in Wuppertal, Germany

Mobility hubs are areas of public space where people can transition between public transport, bike sharing, car sharing, e-scooter rental, private bike parking and other climate-friendly modes of transport. Sometimes, there are also bicycle repair equipment, park & ride spaces or charging stations for electric cars present at these locations. In Germany, they are called Mobilitätsstation, Mobilstation or MOBIpunkt. This proposal wants to tag these as amenity=mobility_hub. In Belgium (Flanders), they are called Hoppinpunt or mobipunt. In the Netherlands, they are called Mobiliteitshub.

Rationale

Since 2003, these kinds of locations are built increasingly in Germany. They are important locations for urban mobility and should therefore be visible on the maps and searchable in the database.

The concept doesn't seem to be widely known in English-speaking countries, but the most often used term seems to be mobility hub, so I decided for the tag amenity=mobility hub, that is already in use in Berlin and Dresden.

Tagging

If the mobility hub is a clearly defined area, draw a closed way around it and tag it with amenity=mobility_hub. If the different amenities that belong to the hub a scattered at the location (for example on different sides of a street), use a relation instead. In most cases, this will be type=site, but if all features are drawn as areas, a multipolygon can be used instead.

Useful tags to use in combination

Tag Description
name=* Name of the mobility hub
ref=* Reference number, if existing
network=* Name of the mobility hub network, usually branded at the hub
operator=* Name of the operator
operator:type=* Type of operator
access=* Access restriction, yes is implied
opening_hours=* Opening hours, 24/7 is implied

Rendering

The feature should be rendered on the map. As this is a relatively new concept, there is no general icon in use yet, only specific ones for the different networks. Renderers would need to think about a fitting icon that can also be understood internationally.
