Tagging | Ramp vs Ground

The proposal suggests that North America uses "ramp" to refer to "ground control" outside of international conventions. The reality is there is a very distinct difference between ground control and ramp tower at US airports. The 'ground' controller/frequency is responsible for what is referred to as the "movement area" (the taxiways that are in control of FAA ATC), just like at any international airport. A "ramp tower" is a separate facility utilized at some larger airports to control the non-movement area and gates. The ramp tower is NOT staffed by FAA air traffic controllers, but is instead staffed by either airline operations representatives or airport authority personnel. Ramp tower coordinates aircraft in and out of gates but aircraft must contact ATC on ground frequency before entering the movement area and taxi to the runway. --Tysseract (talk) 05:04, 19 November 2024 (UTC)

Times of operation

Many airports have towers and TRACONs that only operate part of the day. For example, KSBA tower, ground, clearance, approach, and departure operate only 07:00 to 23:00 local time. Also, depending on the amount of traffic, the ground and clearance frequencies will be combined, but this does not happen on a consistent schedule. --Tysseract (talk) 05:05, 19 November 2024 (UTC)
