Proposal talk:Auctioneer
Subtags for details
Do you intend to provide further details about the auctioneer, e.g. what kind of items are auctioned? Maybe with some tags like auctioneer:items=jewellery;gold? --Imagic 11:25, 4 May 2012 (BST)
- Sounds like a great idea! Although I believe that it would be best to differentiate between types of auctioneers, such as auctioneer:type=real_estate;vehicles;livestock;antiques;jewellery;collectibles;art, and that would already encompass your idea, since each auctioneer type auctions different items, e.g. real estate auctions houses. What do you think? --D4RK-L3G10N 19:29, 4 May 2012 (BST)
- You're right - makes more sense than listing the items. --Imagic 20:20, 5 May 2012 (BST)
- Great! Just a warning about "type", it seems that "type" is reserved for use on relations mostly, so there might be som objections. Lets determine what we mean by type; it is a blend of clientel, items for sale, cost range and auction methods.
- I don't really understand why the usage of any key anywhere should prevent its use as a subkey anywhere else? A type is a type, so why should we call it something else, simply because the type of a relation uses a key called type? In my opinion it would be inconsistent to not use type for this. --Imagic 08:34, 9 May 2012 (BST)
- Why not simply auctioneer=real_estate;vehicles similar to books=* or clothes=* that accompany their related shop=* entry. I don't know offical rules of this ":subtagging", but I prefer simple, easy to type tags, especially when mapping. Kempelen 11:40, 9 May 2012 (BST)

In case this proposal is approved, I'll gladly create any new pages required, such as for any subtags approved, and I'll also translate them into Portuguese and German (although my German isn't that good :/) and update any other related pages if required. --D4RK-L3G10N 19:49, 4 May 2012 (BST)
- I'll take over German for you and also throw in Russian ;-) --Imagic 20:20, 5 May 2012 (BST)
Different usage in a different dialect
Note that in Ireland (at least in the southwest, which is the only part I've lived in) the term "auctioneer" is used to refer to what in the UK are called "estate agents", i.e. people selling real estate, not necessarily by auction. So I think that, at least in Ireland, "shop=auction_house" is less confusing.
