Proposal talk:Bicycle sports
type?
The word 'type' does not really say anything for cycle_polo:type=*, bmx:type=* .. may as well leave it out. The propsal is for cycling=* not cycling:type=* so why use 'type' elsewhere? Warin61 (talk) 01:01, 3 January 2019 (UTC)
bicycle trials
The addition of bicycle trials is justified. But having 3 variations, and one of those looks to be infrastructure, biketrails, I think is over doing it. Warin61 (talk) 21:33, 21 March 2020 (UTC)
3 years and..
This propposal was issued 3 years ago, and near to nothing happens from draft stage. Could it go forward to a votation? I see very interesting this key, even when some closer analisys is necesary to refinement this. (and sorry but english is not my mother language and don´t have a very good handle of it) --Camello AR (talk) 04:51, 2 June 2020 (UTC)
on cycling activities and infrastructures
This proposal seems to be in a dead-end. This is a pity, since the need to efficently (i.e. usefully+sufficiently) describe cycling infrastructures is not adressed.
I propose to get back to union cycliste internationale UCI classification for competitive activities ( https://www.uci.org ). Then add recreational activities needing purpose-built infrastructures. This first reflexion is intented to limit the risk to mix official competition and "recreational-only" infrastructures. For example, it is possible to practise racing BMX on most tracks, but UCI has spec'd official competition tracks characteristics (see https://www.uci.org/docs/default-source/publications/uci-bmx-track-guide---developing-bmx.pdf )
To describe supplemental recreational activities, the categories must be limited to the ones needing special infrastructures. For example, it may be necessary to add a dirtjump category since the track profile differs sufficently from the freestyle-bmx and the MTB category. pumptrack is an example of recreational infrastructure used in many activities : mtb, bmx, skateboard, roller, that is an infrastructure by itself : it may be categorised as a type of leisure pitch.
