opinion
I think Bullrings are special buildings with common and special features, so the tag building=bullring or man_made=bullring (or building=plaza_de_toros or man_made=plaza_de_toros in it's Spanish form) should be considerated. See [2] and [3] Nako 17:42, 5 May 2008 (UTC)
I agree with man_made=plaza_de_toros, also somekind of in_use yes/no to include historical ones like [4] or [5] --PerroVerd 12:49, 1 October 2008 (UTC)
Bull-rings (I believe this is the most usual spelling) satisfy all the conditions for significance and potential use:
- They are destinations in themselves for visitors from cultures where bull-fighting is customary and cultures where it is not. Northern European visitors to Spain are very interested in bull-rings and soccer stadia, but they do not care in the least about whether other stadia are velodromes or running tracks. In Southey's King Ramiro (1802) the king says, "Let me be led to your bull-ring..And let me be set upon a stone." He doesn't say, "Hey man, any sports ground will do."
- Bull-rings are numerous as well as significant. In Mexico, Spain and various other countries and regions where the sport is popular, every medium-sized town has at least one bull-ring. I suspect that there are roughly as many bull-rings in the world as there are cathedrals.
- Bull-rings are generally large in relation to their surroundings. They are a useful point of orientation.
- Tagging bull-rings is useful for students wishing to understand, for example, the changing nature of the leisure industry.
- They are helpful in route planning, even after they have lost their original function. Las Arenas in Barcelona is, for example, about to become a shopping centre, but people still say "Take the second turning after the bull-ring."
I'd have thought building=bull-ring would make sense, but I bow to the experts.

I think it should be in English for international understanding so *=bullring is the word.
also I don´t consider it as a sport, is more an art. because this is arguable i would concentrate on the building.--Sergionaranja 16:04, 1 October 2008 (UTC)..
Definitely bullfighting is not a sport. Whether is an art or technique or madness is beyond OSM scope. Please avoid using any sport related tag. --Rummidge 01:14, 3 October 2008 (UTC)
We must considerate that, in several spanish villages, the bull-ring is mounted and unmounted each summer temporarily in the main square, so a tourist could visit the village during the celebrations and find the temporarily bull-ring. A tag like temporal_bullring=yes should be considered. Examples: [6], [7]. This information in important for people who would want to see the bull-finghtings.
- i think is better *=temporal_bullring meaning that there is a piece of open land where they usually mount the temporal bullring on. It can be a main plaza but in that case it might be confusing to render that and get an proper idea.--Sergionaranja 09:29, 3 October 2008 (UTC)
if we consider the architectural part we can find several types of bullrings:
· stadium like Las Ventas outside Las Ventas inside
· temporary type builded like meccano, but only in festivities in an open land area dedicated for that use.
· temporary in a plaza, squared or whatever shape the plaza is, surrounded by buildings Plaza de Chinchón Plaza del coso ,Peñafiel
· bullfight arena with very limited or no seats (for capea)

Regarding the icon, I propose a more architectural approach, by depicting a round shaped building instead of a bull's face and a sword. Reasons behind are:
- it identifies visually the "plaza de toros" location
- is more general as not all activities inside a bullring are bull/sword related (concerts, shows...)
- it might less arguable than the proposal.

- architectural or bullfighter-bull approach are nice concepts but very hard to represent in 20pixels. you can end up with vinyl or dance icons --Sergionaranja 09:32, 3 October 2008 (UTC)
