- I oppose this proposal. Comprehensive review of cycleway tags required —Preceding unsigned comment added by Obyrnegps (talk • contribs)
- If you want your vote to be counted/your opinion to be more visible, you need to place it on the main page (or ask me to do so). You may be right, but do you think this actually argues against this proposal? --Supaplex030 (talk) 22:08, 17 June 2024 (UTC)
cycleway=track + oneway=yes is also ambiguous
I want to remark that some "naked" cycleway tags without explicit :both, :left or :right are also a bit ambiguous:
In oneways, e.g. cycleway=track does not make it explicitly clear whether there is also a cycleway track on the contra-flow side. Smart data consumers will (probably) treat this case as that there is only a track on the traffic-flow side and none on the other except if oneway:bicycle=yes is specified. Nevertheless, it is not very explicit and inaccurate.
Not sure though if a consensus can be found to basically deprecate cycleway without sides-tag, probably not. --Westnordost (talk) 21:00, 17 June 2024 (UTC)
- It would be great to at least find a consensus that sides-tags are highly recommended. I think I can bring this up in the forum after the proposal is finished, even if I don't have the time to do more right now.
- Another issue we recently discussed in our local community group is the case of cycleway=shared. We couldn't see any sense in this... It's a totally undefined and poorly documented tag, probably somewhere between no and shared_lane, which nevertheless is used 12k times... --Supaplex030 (talk) 22:08, 17 June 2024 (UTC)
- cycleway=shared is already described as deprecated. StreetComplete also considers this as invalid / deprecated, because - shared with what? Cars, pedestrians, buses, taxis? Mopeds? --Westnordost (talk) 09:33, 18 June 2024 (UTC)
- Is there an explicit reference/discussion about deprecation somewhere? If this is indeed already the consensus, I could take this into account when cleaning up the wiki and remove this tag from the overview page and create a separate subpage for it, keeping it documented as deprecated. -- Supaplex030 (talk) 10:20, 18 June 2024 (UTC)
- It's stated on the page you link: "Its use with highway=cycleway is now considered obsolete." --Westnordost (talk) 10:27, 18 June 2024 (UTC)
- cycleway=shared on a highway=* that's not a cycleway should probably also be discouraged, since it's not very specific - but right now the wiki doesn't discourage that, it only says "In general, this indicates that cyclists share the road space with other traffic. ... Its use with highway=cycleway is now considered obsolete." But that could go later, I suppose. --Jarek Piórkowski (talk) 22:19, 20 June 2024 (UTC)
