Proposal
At various points along the UK canals, you can get a service called "pumpout", where a big suction machine empties your human waste tanks. We need a tag with which to mark places offering such services.

Discussion
- Hmmm, isn't waterway=waste_disposal exactly the same? - Ulfl 03:21, 9 February 2008 (UTC)
- waste_disposal is for rubbish (potato peelings, cans, bottles, anything you find in a black sack). Gerv 22:14, 14 February 2008 (UTC)
- No it is not : Proposed_features/Waste_Disposal --PhilippeP 23:01, 14 February 2008 (UTC)
- Yes it is, I wrote Proposed_features/Waste_Disposal :-). I've tried to make it more clear. Gerv 09:16, 16 February 2008 (UTC)
- This really isn't the same as waste_disposal. A waste disposal point would be a couple of those big Biffa wheelie bins where you throw black sacks full of cans and potato peelings and banana skins. A pumpout station is a big clanking machine which sucks poo out of the tanks of a narrowboat. They are really, in no way, the same thing :-). They can occur in different places, and don't necessarily come together. If it convinces anyone, all currently-available canal maps (Pearsons, Nicholsons) have different symbols for the two things. I would say that it is not clear that "pumpout" refers especially to boats. 'waterway' would probably give us that, but it's really not a type of waterway. I would suggest moving it to 'amenity' or 'shop' since there are also land-based services for doing the equivalent from septic tanks, semi-portable toilets, etc., and also land stations for the same thing for RVs/caravans.--Hawke 22:24, 19 March 2008 (UTC)
Voting
- I approve this proposal -- Gerv 19:15, 5 March 2008 (UTC)
- I'll vote against this, i think waste_disposal tag fits --PerroVerd 12:22, 6 March 2008 (UTC)
- I disapprove this proposal. If it can only be used by boats, it should go in the waterway "namespace". -- Ulfl 02:01, 7 March 2008 (UTC)
- OK - can people who disapprove please indicate if they'd approve if it moved to "waterway"? (I don't know if I'm allowed to modify a proposal while voting is going on.) -- Gerv 08:26, 8 March 2008 (UTC)
- If this isn't boat specific as Hawke mentioned, the description should be changed (and amenity would be ok). I also agree that this and the "sanitary station" proposal should go into one. - Ulfl 03:19, 20 March 2008 (UTC)
- I disapprove of this proposal. It is too similar to "sanitary station", and the description is very boat-specific, while the concept is not. --Hawke 17:44, 20 March 2008 (UTC)
- I oppose this proposal. See Hawke. --Chrischan 21:48, 29 May 2008 (UTC)

- I oppose this proposal. It's not only for boats and I prefer using existing tags over creating new ones. --Krauti 21:42, 24 June 2008 (UTC)
