State Of The Map 2008/LimerickPoemCompetition
SOTM 2008 Limerick limerick Poem Page
A limerick is a humerous five-line poem with a strict form: A-A-B-B-A rhyme with two long, two short, one long sentence. More information here
A GPS mapper named Mike,
Covered 62 miles on his bike,
But was rueful to find,
at the end of the grind,
That the said GPS was on strike.
Can you do any better?
Contributions welcome in any of these categories:
1) Limerick's you would show your mother and that she just might understand.
2) Dubious Limericks that you certainly would not show your mother.
3) Obscure jargon-ridden Limericks that no-one except hard core OSM mappers would understand.

This is the original Limerick which started it all from Mike Collinson's Mum.
Back home, my Navi in bad weather I launched the JOSM updater, ready to grind, only to find "API 500 - try again later"
Being a non-native english speaker, this gets challenging... Ivansanchez 19:02, 25 June 2008 (UTC)
On the eve of the State Of The Map If the data we have is still crap Then crack open your logger Enlist help from some bogger And enjoy having feather in cap
This is category 1 (since my mother is from Dublin, so she won't take umbrage at the "bogger" reference) - Dermot McNally via email
They had announced it with glee: "I've got a map editor for thee, with Google MapMaker we'll do maps neater" But they forgot that OSM maps are free

Mappers are worldwide in pain, OSM is sometimes missing a lane. But 'dragons be here' is nothing to fear, they will soon all be slain.
Nothing, I am especially proud of, but anyway... spaetz 08:16, 26 June 2008 (UTC)
There was a mad mapper from Galway, Who’d run out of places to survey. packing his GPS, he sped to New Ross, where again he could forge a new Way.

Is it too late to enter? Here are some more...
There once was a man from Rome who never found his way home so he got on his feet and mapped the street and created a mapping tome.
There was a young man named Steve a plan hidden up his sleeve he whished since birth to map the earth and thats what he did achieve.
A young fellow jumping a gap fell into a heffalump trap he stood up again and took up his pen and put the trap on the map.
There once was a man from Nantucket who emptied a lake with a bucket when asked why he'd done he said just for fun and to make it easier to map it.
There was once an old house at the bay it was over its fate in dismay it was mapped as a node even though this abode wanted the outline mapped with a way.
There once was a young man from Bombay a bike route he tried to convey in his desperation he used a relation with twelve tags and six nodes and a way.

Here's something we concocted at 12:30 last night:
So we went to State of the Map and we met a grumpy old chap said Ed, "I'm no faker, come and use my MapMaker." but we said, "Nah, Google is crap!"

There once was a young man named Ed, Who had opensource ideas in his head, Then he joined the big G and changed, Until one day he became simply deranged
Mapmaker is the greatest he shouted, While the bold SteveC just shrugged and pouted, As he knew the Google Ads would make it crap, And that would leave OpenStreetMap as the one true map
