A column or pillar is often used to support a roof or other structure, but can also be a standalone structure used for decoration.

If it is used for decoration as a part of a historical building, use historic=column, historic=monument instead, and possibly heritage=*. Alternatively, historic=yes can be used in combination with man_made=column

Tagging

Additional details about the column can be given by using these tags:

  • material=* - Describes the main material of a physical feature
  • colour=* - The colour associated with the object
  • height=* - Height is the measurement of vertical distance. It indicates how "tall" something is
  • min_height=* - Height of location of bottom part of building, part of building or another objects
  • historic=yes - Used to add the historic significance of the objects described by other tags
