Hills vs peaks, ridges and mountain ranges
As the distinction between a hill and a mountain is unclear and largely subjective, the difference with natural=peak is also not clear, tagging has not reached a consensus and the classification might be contended. Some mappers have used natural=hill for peaks with less topographical prominence=*, but this is not the most common meaning.
Compared to mountains, a hill is generally less visually prominent, less tall (with a lower ele=*) and less steep, and as such it is easier to climb. Some hills may be a natural=peak or summit. Some hills may be a natural=ridge if the name of the hill does not refer to a single summit or peak, and a collection of several long ranges of ridges may be natural=mountain_range even though "mountain" is not an established tag.
