A motel is an establishment that provides paid lodging, usually on a short-term basis, with convenient parking for motor cars at or close to the room. It is an abbreviation of motor and hotel. They are generally cheaper than hotels. Motels may sometimes but not always provide a number of additional guest services such as a restaurant, breakfast service or swimming pool.

How to Map

There are multiple ways to map a motel, for a given object use one of them.

As an area

  • Map the full grounds of the motel, including all buildings and outdoor areas (swimming pool/s, gardens, carparks etc) and tag it as tourism=motel. Add details such as motel name, address, contact details etc to this area.
  • Map the building(s) inside this area, and tag them with building=* according to their typology.
  • If there are no outdoor areas, both the tourism and the building tags are applied to the building.
  • Draw further facilities, such as amenity=parking or leisure=swimming_pool within the campus.

As a building

  • Map the area of the motel building and apply tourism=motel together with motel name, address, contact details etc

As a node

If unable to make a detailed survey, one may:

  • Create a node at the centre of the area with tourism=motel.
  • If possible, draw the area(s) for the building(s) inside the campus, and tag them with building=* according to their typology.

Add a node at the centre of the building and tag it with tourism=motel. You can name it with name=*.
