Regional railway

  • Connects towns and cities with regional trains, but without long distance inter-city trains.
  • In Germany like RB and RE.
  • In USA, sometimes Amtrak routes, sometimes state-sponsored or regional transit district-sponsored routes which are intermediate in length (usually intrastate, sometimes interstate), not shorter "commuter" routes (passenger=suburban), nor longer routes which are national or international in scope. Examples: Blue Water, Downeaster, Heartland Flyer and Capitol Corridor.
