Wilkinson now branded as Wilko

Wilkinson's stores are now being branded as Wilko, presumably to distinguish them from other companies called Wilkinson. The facades say Wilko, the website is wilko.com and the operator is Wilko Retail Ltd. Safer to restrict to objects with shop=* ?

If I understand things correctly, the current proposal is to change everything with a matching name apart from Bus Stops (and apart from some specific cases where a particular shop value is erquired). Wouldn't it be safer to restrict all the corrections to objects that have been explcitly tagged with a shop=* tag? -- Rjw62 (talk) 11:38, 30 October 2014 (UTC)

Asda

Asda (at the corporate level) are pretty clear that they're called "ASDA" rather than "Asda". Most branding is "ASDA", although the website uses both. Personally, I wouldn't perform an automated change of "Asda" to "ASDA" or vice-versa.--SomeoneElse (talk) 18:52, 2 November 2014 (UTC)

3 / Three (mobile phone shop)

I was shopping yesterday and passed two (I think) different Three stores in the same city. In both cases, the signage above the door had the stylised "3" logo, and the word "Three." (with the full stop). I don't know if the branding there is uniform across the country or is either the before or after an ongoing transition. But looking at their website, e.g. http://www.three.co.uk/About_Three , they appear to refer to themselves "Three" and seem to be fond of the full stop as a stylistic device. The stylised "3" appears to be used only as a logo.

Based on the branding I saw and what's on the website, I'd have thought we should standardise on either "Three" or "Three." rather than "3" or the currently suggested "3 Store".

Some shops use (or use) '3 store' as branding: link I'm not convinced now whether an automatic change from '3' to '3 store' is save, though. Math1985 (talk) 17:07, 5 November 2014 (UTC)

Data (mis)handling

Seems to me that this issue is being mishandled.

All stores of [shopname] should be called shopname and shopname should be set to whatever value the shop is currently trading as. This appears to have already been done with TESCO and ASDA. Erroneously, ASDA has also been added as Asda. Then, when the shop is rebranded, one edit of the data will change all the shopnames for that brand.

In database terms, this is known as a single point of maintenance and is the logical approach to the problem.
