Talk:Collaboration with Wikivoyage
I have contributed to both Wikivoyage and OSM. There is already some collaboration in the sense that for example when I add coordinates to WV listing I always use OSM. If it is not in OSM, I first add it to OSM. It would be great to have better tools. E.g. being able to reference OSM objects in WV listings or maybe tag OSM POI's for inclusion in WV. There is information in WV that we do not add to OSM, e.g, hotel and restaurant prices and subjective descriptions ("charming restaurant with nice view and friendly staff, but bland food .."). And directions ("Turn right after the church"). In WV most listing have an address, which is not the case in OSM, because we try to avoid duplicate addresses. In WV listings, POI's are positions which are not trivial to calculate from OSM area POI -- when you add e.g., a valley, a river, a park, an island, etc you want to use the most _interesting_ position, not some definition of the middle. Opening hours is something that would be very useful to share between the projects. Elgaard (talk) 21:15, 14 July 2015 (UTC)
- I've heard that Wikidata has been enabled on Wikivoyage. We already have a wikidata=* key, and Wikidata itself has links to various Wikimedia projects, including WV. Wouldn't that be a possible way of connecting WV and OSM? Or would we need to reference things that don't have their own page? --Tordanik 22:01, 14 July 2015 (UTC)
