Surely a community garden should be tagged landuse=allotments. This is a widespread tag in general usage for at least 9 years.

How would a site that produces compost be defined? This page only seems to list things that would generate compost. Pmackay (talk) 22:38, 28 September 2014 (UTC)

Community Garden Tags

I am new to OSM and tags, and was wondering the appropriate tag for community gardens. I see that land_use=allotments is a standard one to use, but when I looked at the definition it did not quite match the community garden definition that I am wanting to map. The community gardens I am mapping are sponsored by an organization within the community and then are gardened by volunteers and community members, so not rented out or allotted to specific people or families. The food produced in these gardens are free and u-pick to anyone in the community. In this case would I just use leisure=garden and garden:type=community? Thanks for your help!

-- yes, leisure=garden and garden:type=community are correct. Species 07:42, 21 November 2019 (UTC)

Composting plants

Currently I tag composting plants with amenity=recycling and shop=compost, but I am not quite happy with that either: Some sites (e.g. https://www.mebakomp.de/produkte) sell wooden chips and mulch together with compost, maybe we can find an overarching term for that? --Xerus (talk) 11:10, 29 June 2021 (UTC)
