Talk:Forward & backward, left & right
Proposed merge
I partially disagree with the merge proposal. The page Directional should be merged into this one instead. --Jgpacker (talk) 11:41, 29 November 2014 (UTC)
- Well we can use name Forward & backward, left & right, but we have to merge texts anyway. Xxzme (talk) 12:57, 29 November 2014 (UTC)
Xxzme, could you please write a bit about your proposed merge here? Which page into which, why, ... --Aseerel4c26 (talk) 12:30, 29 November 2014 (UTC)
- Content of Directional comes from Category:Way Direction Dependent. Right now we have Category:Forward & backward, left & right (map feature category) Category:Way Direction Dependent (something) - they should be merged IMO. Xxzme (talk) 12:57, 29 November 2014 (UTC)
Mention that editors will still show direction for features that don't really have any
Mention that yes, some e.g., simple footpaths may not really have any direction. But editors have no way of not showing one anyway. (Yes, they just use the order of the nodes.)
Maybe mention how to explicitly tag "This way has no direction". (Which even can be picked up by editors too.)

- Way always have direction, but it may be utterly unimportant. Showing direction may be helpful (or not), but it is not incorrect Mateusz Konieczny (talk) 09:32, 8 June 2020 (UTC)
Map paths to goal object, or from them
Here is a path from a road on the left, to a house on the right,
|-------[]
Should we in general map it this way (to house),
|--->---[]
or the other way (to road):
|---<---[]
E.g., should we start clicking from the house, or the road?
Yes, I know it doesn't matter. But since I can do either, which is preferred?
OK, I guess the goal of the person who bought the cement to make the path was probably to get to their house, so we probably should map it as such. Jidanni (talk) 15:52, 17 November 2022 (UTC)
