Redirect to Games

A stub article was created recently with this title. It was then deleted with the explanation 'we already have a list of games. redirect!'

I have reinstated the article as I think it will be useful to give User:Wizrares an opportunity to develop it. To be clear, gamification, is method to collect data. Not all games have a 'gamification' element, and not all data collection systems are gamified. Some OSM data collection systems could probably be enhanced considerably if they were gamified.

Wizarres gave a talk on gamification at the recent 2013 State of the Map Conference. He is also doing a 3rd year uni project on this and has some useful thought and energy to give (see his user page for details).

I should note that he also works for ITO World, and is doing this project with support by myself and the company, as such there is a potential Conflict of Interest which I should make people aware of. If anyone thinks there are any problem re COI then please raise them with me or Chris.

OK but now we've managed to develop this page without even a link to the Games page, or a link back, so that's glaring wiki error, but anyway....

I'm not convinced that this has developed in any particularly helpful direction since the above comment or since I first looked at it. Obviously we might describe what "Gamification" means separate to "Games", but (as is often a problem) wikipedia does a great job of that, so we have to ask ourselves what does it mean, or what is left to describe, in an OpenStreetMap context. Not much really. Just listing all the projects doing OSM gamification we know about... which is what we've done a lot more of on the Games page.

So five years after I originally thought this should be a redirect to Games... I suggest this should be a redirect to Games :-)

BUT I think the Games page should have a mention/definition of "Gamification", so I've just added that there now

I feel the two subjects are different enough to merit separate pages. And the section of gamification-related content on Games could be moved over here with practically no redundancy besides mutual links between the pages. Also, use of OSM in (video) games seems like an emerging topic at the moment, with several commercial games already making use of our data, and various players offering tooling for popular engines. So I feel there's enough material to fill a wiki page on it's own. --Tordanik 20:09, 2 August 2018 (UTC)

As per my suggestion, I've made an attempt to separate the two pages more cleanly: Gamification describes efforts to gamify map contributions, and Games describes regular games built with OSM data (and tools for doing so). --Tordanik 17:40, 21 September 2018 (UTC)
