foot=passable
I'd guess that it'd be better to use, say, foot:orienteering=passable; say a stream that a orienteering people would call passable might be very much not passable to other casual pedestrians ("your mother", for example). Likewise for other listed features for which it might make sense. Also it could be that the orienteering event is organized on private grounds and access is either private or permissive before and after the event. Alv 09:55, 26 July 2009 (UTC)
- Considering a common OSM guideline is to only "record whats actually on the ground" (Good_practice), I'd think we don't have to wory about particular persons not considering something as passable by foot, if it can be seen as such in general. In order to create an actual orienteering event map, you may have to work with a local copy/branch from the osm database and add temporary details layer (or deviations) anyway. --Mila 09:41, 17 May 2010 (UTC)
- The point was that what is "in general considered passable" is different from what the "orienteering people in general" would consider passable. Hence a distinct key. Alv 11:18, 17 May 2010 (UTC)
- I wouldn't object to a subkey like foot:orienteering=passable like you proposed, since the renderer should still accept/account for foot=passable just as well. I only wonder if it is necessary. Mothers and others may still assess any water with a depth of 1m and moderate stream as passable by humans in general (not swimming but walking), even though anybody may neglect to pass, except maybe if taking part in an orienteering competition or in other special circumstances. Similarly, things like the clothes one wears should never be taken into account when determining if something is foot=passable. (say for a human with a height of 1.5m) Mila 19:37, 19 May 2010 (UTC)
- Still now nobody actually uses foot=passable (2 times in the db) and it is contradicting the definition of foot (legal access for pedestrians). It would conflict in the case you wanted to say something like foot=private at the same time. I propose to use passable:foot=yes/no instead. --Dieterdreist 22:11, 1 September 2011 (BST)

Odd tagging
Someone locally has tagged display=*, which is tagging for the renderer. There's also weird duplications like objects tagged building=yes iof=building. I intend to put a note on the page to discourage this Pnorman 00:11, 20 March 2012 (UTC)
JOSM IOF presets and JOSM IOF styles hyperlinks don't work anymore
In the chapter "Practical IOF mapping" there are 2 hyperlinks that lead to http://como.oxtract.se/export/17/JOSM/isompresets.xml and http://como.oxtract.se/export/17/JOSM/comostyle.xml but none of them works anymore. If you know the updated links - please modify them.
