Maps for disaster plan - Local bodies
On September 18, 2020, KSDI project manager, Arun has communicated to OSM Kerala community members about Maps for disaster plan. (in osmkerala telegram group).
Local bodies in Kerala are preparing disaster plans. For most of them it is a first time experience. Under mapathon program, we are planning to facilitate a review of OSM maps by local bodies to see if it has all the major entities discussed in the disaster plan are mapped. First pilot will be in Karakulam Gramapanchayath this Saturday. For pilot, KSDI will help them fix the gaps. The process will be - each ward member of the local body will fix up a meeting with volunteer. Volunteer will show OSM map of the area to ward member and/or a person who is familiar with ward suggested by the ward member. Missing entities will be identified and will be mapped by the volunteer.
A district level team to coordinate mapathon local activities in being planned. If we can have at least one OSM volunteer to join the coordination group for each district that would be useful.
