Is there a standard or helpful way to input house numbers that include an extension? Like if an address house number is 510 1/2, should the value be 510 1/2? I'm assuming that's the right way to do it, but I wanted to double check.--IanVG (talk) 00:12, 16 May 2022 (UTC)

Depending on the decimal symbol you could write is as 510,5 or 510.5 but this only would make sense if this were a typical way of writing it locally. I would go with the most typical local notation. In Italy we have agreed on 510c i.e. lowercase letters and no separator (commonly on the ground you could also find 510/C and similar), but it really doesn’t make a big difference for practical use. —Dieterdreist (talk) 08:25, 16 May 2022 (UTC)

places without streets?

Please do not only tag addr:housenumber=*, but also add at least addr:street=* or addr:place=* for places without streets. I read: for places without street names (who doesn't remember the song that U2 made about OSM?)

Most validators will try to match addr:street=* with the name=* tag of a street nearby. Take the following example: a large park with a museum inside: the official address of this museum is the park itself, despite OSM does not have any highway=* object with that name. In that situation, we do not use addr=street and use addr:place=* instead. Another use is in small villages where roads have no name but the village is so small that all the buildings have the same "street name", i.e. the name of the village itself.
