Why not use product=* instead?
Why is it necessary to use aerospace:product=*? Why not product=*?
Using the standard tag makes it easier if a feature manufactures products which are not only aerospace-related, by using one semi-colon separated list of values. It also will be easier to find, since product=* is a much more common tag, and this will make it easier for database users to support. --Jeisenbe (talk) 05:31, 23 October 2020 (UTC)
- As you otherwise get a problem with
Multinational_corporations which produce many kind of products, just think of
Yamaha which produces vehicles as well as musical instruments. And as you already mention "easier to find" : Do you think it's easier to find all aerospace (or food, or instrument) entries if all products are listed below product=* ? Another example would be
Bosch. Vehicle manufacturers may have different divisions (land/water/air) or even completely different products. Besides aerospace:product there might be more aerospace:* values to be mapped within this namespace. Generally this is a question of
Syntax and
Categorization and, as you mentioned, an easy

- Yes, it's easier to find all products of factories and workshops if they all use the key product=*, instead of using a variety of tags like civil_aviation:product=*, military_aviation:product=*, aerospace:product=*, military:product=*, electronics:product=* and so on. --Jeisenbe (talk) 04:23, 24 October 2020 (UTC)
