Village hall vs community hall
Anyone have a clearer definition of the differences then what the article currently provides? What else makes them different besides where they are located? Is a hall in the middle of a village still a community hall? Also, isn't community hall a little redundant since "centre" and "hall" mean extremely similar things in this context? --Adamant1 (talk) 06:05, 2 July 2020 (UTC)
- In OSM we often have values that allow further specification, by being subsets of the more general values. E.g. we could have building=yes, knowing no details, building=residential, so we know the purpose, and building=apartments, so we know the purpose and the building style to be different from a detached house.
Similar in your question, I'd say the village hall is the one and only hall in the village, while a community hall can be one of many in a larger town, which might have a more diverse population with more diverse needs. In my perspective, a village hall is a special case of a community hall. --Polarbear w (talk) 18:10, 5 December 2020 (UTC)
Club home vs. club
What is the difference between a node with club=yes and a node with amenity=community_centre + community_centre=club_home? Is it that the first is for one club and the latter is for several clubs?--AntMadeira (talk) 21:32, 15 October 2024 (UTC)
- Personally, I think of club=* as marking anything as related to clubs. It can be any amenity=* or leisure=* feature, which is already used on 13%. https://taginfo.openstreetmap.org/keys/club#combinations
So community_centre=club_home simply needs to be used for gathering and socializing, lectures, talks, discussions, planning, etc. It's not a must to carry out their actual activity there in town, eg outdoors, wild, or sports elsewhere.
However, there's amenity=social_centre somewhat overlapping. It isn't limited to "clubs".
—— Kovposch (talk) 10:10, 16 October 2024 (UTC)- I can understand the difference to amenity=social_centre, and its wiki helps to clarify that, but the club home vs. club is still very dubious... The definition of club in the wiki states "A club is an association=* of two or more people united by a common interest or goal. A service club, for example, exists for voluntary or charitable activities; there are clubs devoted to hobbies and sports, social activities clubs, political and religious clubs, and so forth." So, stating in this wiki that a club home is "A facility of a particular club or association." is very odd to me. One can argue that a club home is related to a place where people from the community socialize, but that's exactly what a club is, depending, of course, on the type of club. --AntMadeira (talk) 12:03, 16 October 2024 (UTC)
