Expanding This

Is there any interest in expanding this to include knives as well as if you can conceal or open carry?

A static "yes/no" doesn't really encapsulate all the nuance that you find in the real world. For instance, Levi's is asking customers to not bring guns into the store, but is not enforcing that as a rule. I can't put yes or no for that. After some time, I came up with the following scale I think covers all cases:

  • prohibited (as per law, border/gate/door checks, or legally enforcable signs, the general public is prohibited from carrying at all times).
  • discouraged (general public are asked to not carry weapons, however non-compliance isn't enforceable or enforced).
  • conceal-carry-only (conceal carry permitted, open carry forbidden).
  • open-carry-only (conceal carry forbidden, open carry permitted).
  • permissive (weapons may be carried either concealed or openly).
  • encouraged (general public are encouraged to carry weapons).

The key public_carry, by itself, applies to everything (guns and knives), but could be applied to a subset. For instance:

public_carry:firearms=prohibited
public_carry:knives=conceal-only
