Analagous to nev=*?
@Minh Nguyen: Is 'analogous to nev=*' correct? Microcars often use internal combustion engines (I've never even seen an electric one yet), and still have to comply with certain minimal safety standards. The classification also differs in that this is not something cities can just decide for themselves (unlike nev=* apparently). Documenting these as US and European near-equivalents might cause more confusion than warranted. --JeroenHoek (talk) 16:19, 15 March 2025 (UTC)
- @JeroenHoek: I see. NEV is a nationwide classification, but like everything else in the U.S., decisions about access restrictions are left to the lowest level of government. I was going off of w:Neighborhood Electric Vehicle describing NEVs as analogous to a w:Quadricycle (EU vehicle classification) at one point, but I see now that it's specifically contrasting it with quadricycles as non-electric. I'm not even sure why it's mentioned in that article. I'll remove the statement but leave it as a see-also. This key came up in OSMUS Slack in a question about how to tag NEVs; a lot of people know of these vehicles but don't know what they're called, so "microcar" is a likely search term. – Minh Nguyễn 💬 17:00, 17 March 2025 (UTC)
- Thanks. Yeah, 'see also' etc. is useful. These are not entirely dissimilar classes after all (I fully expect this type of vehicle too to transition to electric over the next decade or two), but it's a different beast. In the Netherlands these are mostly used by people who are unable to acquire a car-level driving licence (usually for medical reasons). --JeroenHoek (talk) 17:22, 17 March 2025 (UTC)
